The fault
How you spot it
On early e-tron cars, mostly built in 2019, the internal seal of the electric motor can let through, and coolant gets into the motor, which is then beyond saving. The usual precursor is the electrical system warning light, then replacement of the front electric motor. According to the reports it affects a few per cent of the cars, but the repair is in the 7,000 to 10,000 euro range, and in Europe there is no extended motor warranty behind it of the kind American owners received.
Cars built after 2021 got a revised seal, so the model year here is a real difference in risk, not just a question of price.

How we know
Information, not an expert opinion
We write the descriptions, and we put the source next to them. A person reviews them before they go out. They are still information, not a technical expert opinion.
- A fault on the list does not mean the car you are looking at has it.
- A fault missing from the list does not mean the model is fault-free. Write-ups are made model by model. Not all of them are done.
- You decide whether to buy. This is no substitute for an inspection. That needs a workshop and a history check.
