What to watch for
The list covers the generation, the engines and the transmissions. Once you pick the version, only the faults that apply to it stay.
The common rail high-pressure pump is lubricated and cooled by the diesel itself, because the pump produces over 2,000 bar and has no separate lubrication circuit.
Applies to the engine CDUC.
Repair: 1,500–15,000 EUR
The timing chain of the longitudinal V6 diesel runs at the back of the engine, on the gearbox side, so replacing it means taking out the engine or the gearbox.
Applies to the engine CDUC, CDUD, CGQB and 8 more.
The front bearing of the mechanical supercharger on the 3.0 TFSI, the nose bearing, wears, and over the years and the kilometres it drones louder and louder, but only under load.
It can affect every car in this generation.
The continuously variable gearbox of the longitudinal engine Audis (Multitronic) is vulnerable from both the control unit and the drive chain side.
Applies to the transmission 0AW.
The membrane of the crankcase breather regulates how much suction there is inside the engine.
Applies to the engine CGWB, CGWD.
Repair: 80–400 EUR
The crankcase breather module keeps the pressure inside the engine at the right level with a membrane.
Applies to the engine CEUC, CRDB.
Repair: 400–1,800 EUR
The 7 speed wet clutch S tronic used in the longitudinal engine Audis (0B5 / DL501) is more durable than the early DSG units, but the mechatronics unit is the most common source of faults here too.
Applies to the transmission DL501.
The combined housing of the water pump and the thermostat is plastic, and it is bolted directly to the hot engine block.
Applies to the engine CYGA, CYNB, CYPA.
7 more faults belong to this generation. On the version page, only the ones that apply stay.
The manufacturer fixes these for free at a franchised dealer. Ask with the VIN whether it was done. The list covers the whole generation. We did not filter it by model year. Some apply only to a narrower production window.
A12/00615/21Safety recallInjuriesno date · EU Safety GateDue manufacturing defect in the instrument panel, the deployment of the airbag could be impeded. This could impair its protective potential and could lead to plastic parts become detached when the airbag is activated, increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

A12/00689/20Safety recallFireno date · EU Safety GateMoisture can penetrate into the belt starter generator. This can result in a short circuit, leading to local overheating and increased risk of fire. Due to the permanent power supply of the starter generator, this can occur when the vehicle has already been parked for a while.

Neighbouring generations

Common questions
2010–2018. The changeover year can fall in two generations. If the listing is from that year, look at the neighbour too.
No. It depends on the engine and the transmission too.
The fault list is.
We write the descriptions, and we put the source next to them. A person reviews them before they go out. They are still information, not a technical expert opinion.
