The fault

How you spot it

Channels around the sunroof frame carry the water away, leaves, dust and dirt block them, the rubber valve at the end of the channel sticks shut, and the water runs into the headlining, the A-pillar, the footwell and the boot. On the B8 A4 this often leads to electrical faults: you often miss the water and notice instead that something electrical starts behaving oddly, and by then the control unit in the floor is already corroding. Cleaning the drains is a cheap repair, replacing a soaked control unit is expensive.

How we know

Information, not an expert opinion

We write the descriptions, and we put the source next to them. A person reviews them before they go out. They are still information, not a technical expert opinion.

  • A fault on the list does not mean the car you are looking at has it.
  • A fault missing from the list does not mean the model is fault-free. Write-ups are made model by model. Not all of them are done.
  • You decide whether to buy. This is no substitute for an inspection. That needs a workshop and a history check.
