Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2026 C-HR battery electric vehicles. A software programming error may cause the electric drive system battery to become overcharged under certain driving conditions, which can shut down the electric drive system and result in a loss of drive power.

Risk: An unexpected loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will update the battery electric vehicle electronic control unit (BEV ECU) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 19, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 26TA17.

Information, not an expert opinion

We write the descriptions, and we put the source next to them. A person reviews them before they go out. They are still information, not a technical expert opinion.

  • A fault on the list does not mean the car you are looking at has it.
  • A fault missing from the list does not mean the model is fault-free. Write-ups are made model by model. Not all of them are done.
  • You decide whether to buy. This is no substitute for an inspection. That needs a workshop and a history check.
