The engine does not accelerate cleanly and struggles on a climb. The cause is a clogged fuel system: an aged fuel filter, dirty injectors, or a saturated particulate filter.

The particulate filter does not burn off properly on short city runs and fills up gradually. On a van this is common, because it stops often and spends a lot of time manoeuvring.
What to check
- Accelerate at full throttle: the engine must pull evenly, without hesitation
- Ask for the service book and check when the fuel filter was last replaced
- Have the particulate filter load read, along with the distance since the last regeneration
